The Summer Internship Program 2025 at the National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) is designed for highly motivated students who seek to deepen their academic knowledge through research and hands-on learning. As one of India’s Institutes of National Importance, NIT Calicut offers a structured internship program under the guidance of experienced faculty members across various engineering, science, and interdisciplinary domains.

This internship provides a platform for students to explore advanced topics, contribute to live research projects, and develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative skills in a research-driven academic environment.



Who Should Apply?

This internship is ideal for:

  • Undergraduate students (B.Tech, B.Arch, B.Sc) in their second or third year.
  • Postgraduate students (M.Tech, M.Sc, M.Plan, MBA) in their first year.
  • Students with a strong academic track record and a keen interest in research or technical innovation.

Interns are expected to be curious, committed, and ready to contribute meaningfully to their assigned projects. The program is open to students from all Indian institutions and disciplines relevant to the research domains at NIT Calicut.



Eligibility Criteria

To ensure a high-quality and trustworthy learning environment, the following eligibility conditions apply:

  • Minimum CGPA of 7.5/10 or equivalent percentage as per your institution’s grading system.
  • A well-articulated Statement of Purpose (SOP) that reflects your academic interest, goals, and motivation for applying.
  • Students must not have any active backlogs at the time of application.
  • Prior research exposure or relevant project work (if any) should be clearly mentioned in the resume.
  • A recommendation letter from a faculty member or research supervisor (optional but beneficial).


Domains Offered

Internship projects will be offered in the following broad areas:

  • Computer Science and AI
    Topics may include machine learning, cybersecurity, IoT systems, and computer vision.

  • Electrical & Electronics Engineering
    Interns may explore topics in power systems, embedded systems, or digital signal processing.

  • Mechanical Engineering
    Projects may focus on thermal systems, robotics, CAD/CAM, or fluid dynamics.

  • Civil and Structural Engineering
    Including smart construction materials, earthquake engineering, and GIS applications.

  • Architecture and Planning
    Focus on sustainable design, urban planning, and smart city modeling.

  • Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics
    Projects in quantum physics, materials chemistry, computational modeling, or mathematical simulations.

  • Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, and Environmental Science

Faculty members across departments will list specific project areas on the internship portal, allowing students to choose based on their interests and academic background.



Program Structure

The internship will follow a full-time, immersive format:

  • Orientation & Project Allocation: Interns will be introduced to their mentors, research teams, and lab facilities.
  • Hands-on Work: Daily involvement in experiments, coding, simulations, or design work.
  • Skill-building Sessions: Workshops on technical writing, data analytics, presentation skills, and research ethics.
  • Mid-term Review: Mentors will evaluate your progress and guide further work.
  • Final Presentation & Report: Interns will present their findings to a review committee and submit a detailed report.

Interns are encouraged to ask questions, challenge ideas, and take ownership of their learning process. The structure is built to promote both expert guidance and independent exploration.
